2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse
The 2006 Eclipse, which goes on sale next summer, gets a big boost in power and a six-speed manual transmission. A new 3.8-liter V6 engine for the Eclipse produces 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission replaces the current four-speed automatic. The company says the four-cylinder engine in the 2006 model will produce more power than the current 147 hp for 2005 .

hopefully they are going back to their roots. 260hps sounds nice. the thrid gen sucked imo. from this view, the back end looks like a combo of TT and classic 2nd gen eclipse/talon's C? pillar.

i'm not so sure about the front end. i think the fogs are a bit too big. i guess i'll check it out when i go to the autoshow on wed morning.. hopefully...

Even without seeing the rear I have to say I like the looks. I agree it would be better with RWD or AWD, but for what it is it is very nice looking. Does anyone know what the price range will be?

I don't understand how FWD cars even sell. After having a FWD Jetta, I don't think I will ever own a FWD car again. I mean, the FWD in the Jetta worked pretty well and was nice during bad weather, I'd MUCH rather have RWD or AWD any day of the week...

I don' mind FWD on cars especially on commuter cars etc.. I just wouldn't want FWD on any performance vehicle. I loved my 91 Prelude w/FWD and as you stated Emile it was great in bad weather.

I honestly like this design much better than the last. It sort of reminds me of the previous generation that made the Eclipse so popular back in the late 90's.

I can understand that, I just think that the bad weather benefit is not enough to justify the FWD. FWD is so quick to spin its tires on wet and dry roads, although it provides you with very predictable handling, it doesn't "feel" right. Of course most car manufacturers give their cars FWD because the cars are front-heavy already and it's cheaper to utilize an FWD system over RWD or AWD (and since most -if not all- cars are front heavy, they would be an absolute disaster in RWD form).

You're right - and any fool who says you can't feel the difference between FWD and RWD in normal driving, is CRAZY, and a fool (hence the beginning of the senctence [hihi])

You can most definitely feel it, all the time (except when you aren't moving). Car's simply feel more balanced when they are RWD. Think there's a reason that all of these companies are brining more and more rwd cars back to the market? IE chrysler, pontiac, etc.
