What do you guys think?

Wolfsburg / Paris, September 2004. Two years ago exactly, Volkswagen introduced the Touareg to the world for the first time in Paris. And now, the world's most exclusive sports utility vehicle in this form is making its début at the same place: the Touareg W12 Sport, initially available as a limited edition only. The 331 KW / 450 hp special-class SUV, which reaches 250 km/h (electronically limited, speedometer up to 300 km/h) was designed by Volkswagen Individual. The combination of the twelve-cylinder engine, air-suspension running gear and all-wheel drive is currently unique throughout the world.

The unusual driving performance, such as acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, are impressive, but are not necessarily in the foreground. It is more the way it moves - which is superior in every respect - that makes the Touareg W12 Sport appeal to a very sophisticated clientele. The maximum torque of 600 Newton metres applied by the 6.0 litre twelve-cylinder ensures that the Touareg can produce almost inexhaustible reserves of strength both on and off road. The petrol engine, which is classified under the EU4 standard, has a six-speed automatic transmission (Tiptronic).

Both the exterior and the interior of Europe's most powerful cross-country vehicle has been re-specified by Volkswagen Individual in many areas. The "deep blue" painted exhibition vehicle shows the new features in detail. Outside, it is the exclusively designed bumpers, darkened windows, wheel arch extensions which blend smoothly with the side sills, two chromium-plated double exhaust-pipe ends and 20-inch alloy wheels with tyre dimensions 275/40 R20 that make this Touareg stand out as the W12 Sport.

The smart interior of the Touareg is further refined by the addition of individual sports seats with Alcantara inlays (very non-slip), aluminium inserts (design: Engine Spin) and aluminium door entry strips incorporating the "W12 Sport" lettering. The new top-of-the-range model can be ordered in Germany and France from October. Other markets will follow shortly

Looks and sounds pretty good, but I'd still rather take an X5 4.8is in a heartbeat. Cayenne Turbo is awesome too, but I'm not fond of the interior. I'd even still take the X5 4.8is over this W12 Touareg AND the Cayenne Turbo. I think the X5 4.8is is easily BMW's hottest vehicle available right now...

i like it.

question: (i'm too lazy to do the research) but what would be the difference in output btw the V8 turbo on the Cayanne and the W12 on the Tourag? i thought the 12 would stomp the turbo, but the numbers seems pretty close, at least on a glance.

Yeah, the Touareg certainly shows its sporting intentions, but the face of it is still naturally "happy" and "friendly" whereas the Cayenne Turbo, it looks sporty from the ground up.

Jason, the Cayenne Turbo pushes out 450hp as does the Touareg's W12. The Cayenne is half a second faster to 60mph thanks to weight and basically considering it's built to be a sportier vehicle from the ground up.

Personally, If I had to have an SUV, I'd rather have the Touareg over the Cayenne. I think this Touareg looks really sharp. I'm not a fan of the Cayenee - I think it looks weird. To me, the Cayenne doesn't really look sporty, it just looks strange. The big air intakes in the front fascia just look goofy to me - I think they could have refined the styling a bit more. Plus, I still think a Porsche SUV is just wrong and shows weakness for a legendary sports car company to "give in" to the trendy SUV driven society. That's not what Porsche's supposed to be about, right??

It doesn't really matter to me anyways, because I'd never buy an SUV.

i guess the w12 is for higher tow rating.. i personally like the way the front of the Cayenne looks. it carries on the bigger porsche, but still part of the family look. until you get to the rear end. it is sooo dull and ugly, you really can't say much about it. well at least the SUV handles and drives like a sports car.

touareg on the other hand has the classy VW look up front and simple but nice back end.

That Touareg is smokin' hot. I love Touareg's in general; my friend has a V10 TDI and thing is awesome! Interior's are drop dead gorgeous, and nicer, in my opinion, than' the X5's interior in look and feel....

I hope no one takes offense to this comment, but when I saw these pictures, the song "Low Rider" pops into my mind.

That's what makes the car a true gangster whip !!!!

Yeah I agree with Wallie, I think the Touareg's interior is really beautiful. I am surprised the car is a VW! But at the same token, the X5's interior was really nice for its time also, and the Touareg is just a newer SUV.
