The SLK has had a redesign and is now bigger and better then ever.

"Longer and wider than its predecessor, the new SLK also sports a range of new engines and several innovative new features. The base SLK200 Kompressor uses Mercedes' latest four-cylinder engine while the midgrade SLK350 gets a new V6 with 272 horsepower. AMG enthusiasts will be glad to learn that the new SLK55 boasts 360 hp from a 5.5-liter V8 hooked to a paddle-shifted seven-speed automatic. SLK200 and 350 models come standard with a six-speed manual but the four-cylinder will offer a five-speed automatic as an option while the V6 can be mated to the seven-speed automatic. The larger cabin offers more room than before, but its biggest claim to fame is its new AIRSCARF system. This segment-first technology uses headrest-mounted vents to channel warm air to the head, neck and shoulder areas of the occupants making the SLK comfortable to drive with the top down even on cool days. What will they think of next?" -edmunds.com

It looks like it's still the same chassis/body frame with new sheetmetal and new engine/tranny choices. The roofline doesn't look like it's been changed at all. Is this true?

You have to admit that 360 horses in one of these things would be awesome!

Yes, but the current SLK32 AMG produces 349hp, which is very close to the SLK55's 360hp, which is why I'm not impressed by the SLK55. I bet the 5.5 liter engine up front (rather than the 3.2 liter AMG engine) is going to make this thing even-more front-heavy. [:(]

That funny looking F1 nose on the hood kills the whole look of the car...it would look so much better without it

looks like one of these

but I'd still take it....360hp is hard to turn down

Have the SL models always come with manuals? I didn't know that Mercedes made cars other than automatics.
The SLs have only come in auto. At least for the last 3 generations.

The SLK (the small one) has come in a stick, although it's extremely rare to find one. I mean, the current one is like pure girl's car. I can't help but laugh every time I see a guy driving one.

Hahahaha, I completely agree !!!!!!!!!!!
My dad was going to lease a SLK320 in stick shift for himself 2 years ago as a "pleasure" car and obviously, he would make the payments and I would do the driving. I think the SLK320 is nice if you get the Sport Package or it's the SLK32 AMG...otherwise, it's super compact look to it makes it SUCH a girly girl's car!

Kia, they have a catchy Amanti (full size sedan) commercial, you expect a beautiful German luxury car and all of a sudden around comes the back end and smack, a $25,000 KIA!

I like the ripped off headlights looks kind of like a Mercedes?

I absolutly hate that new Kia Amanti. Not only is it a copy of German design but its a terrable copy and looks like shit. If someone I know buys one of those they better expect to be egged by me.

Actually, the previous generation SL was available with a manual transmission, but only on a few of the early six cylinder models, i.e. 300SL, as was the generation before that (although probably only in europe). I have seen examples of both for sale.
