Nice vid, the Cobra can not hook up and get traction. The Benz really holds its own, but than that is 35 grand vs 75 grand plus. AMG always makes some nice stuff!

The new E55 AMG is faster than the M5 in straight-line acceleration. 394hp (M5) vs 469hp (E55). The M5 can't keep up with that...
Sometimes horsepower is not everything, as evident with American cars.
What are the specs for 0-60 and 1/4mile for the M5 and E55?

The E55 is markedly quicker than the M5 in a straight line.

M5s run 4.8-5.0 seconds to sixty and low 13s in the quarter mile.

E55s run 4.3-4.6 seconds to sixty and mid 12s in the quarter mile.

I think the M5 is still quicker around a road course, as it has superior handling.

As for the Video, that Cobra is not stock. In the original match with the E55, they quoted dyno numbers of around 480 hp at the rear wheels for the Cobra. If those power numbers were correct, it should have beaten the E55, which is represented as stock (other than drag radials). I don't know if the Cobra driver is just not very good, or if the Cobra is having mechanical problems, because a 480 RWHP Cobra should be able to take the E55.

From my own experience, the 03 Cobra is not very good on a road course. Driver skill makes a huge difference, but I let one by at Road American in my NSX. I shouldn't have let him by, since I was all over him and left him shortly thereafter. The minor advantage he had in straight line speed was easily overcome by the vastly superior handling of the NSX. Again, I don't know how well he was driving the car.

Where would M3 end up in that race Tom?
I'm not Tom, but I'll give it a try.

In the drag race shown in the video, an E46 M3 would be left behind. An E46 M3 is a 4.8-5.1 second to sixty car and runs a low to mid 13 second quarter mile.

On the track, driver skill is the key. I can say that of the 27 cars in my run group at Road America this past fall (Novice group), several of which were E46 M3s, only the Cobra passed me when we were running at the limit. The only other car to pass me was an E46 M3, but that was when I was slowing to investigate a possible braking problem, so that doesn't really count. The rest of the E46 M3s saw my rear end only.

With equal drivers, I would guess the E46 M3 is very close to the NSX. I think the M3 has a little more straight line acceleration, but does not handle the corners as quickly. We were running about even on the straights, and I was blowing them away in the corners, particularly the carousel.

I agree 100%....but the Cobra had a big loss of traction, Just a vid, was not there. Then again....40 grand will do alot to any car. If the Cobra was stock, should hit 12 area 1/4 on the track. Driver experience is a BIG player, also weight. On a drag track, with slicks, might be different. For 35K, the Cobra is pretty expensive. But for 40K more, the friggin AMG better be able to hold its own. Just my 2 cents.[;)]

When something breaks though.....wonder what will be cheaper to fix....the Cobra....or the AMG?
